IT WAS INSPIRING to see hundreds of protestors gather on Parliament Square today to take the fight against the cap on nurses pay straight to the Tory Government. It was even more inspiring to speak with nurses and others from across the health sector, and to be joined by many of my colleagues from the Labour Party.

I was sickened in June when the Tories voted to keep the public sector pay cap in place; and I was also sickened to hear many Tory MPs cheer when the result was announced. This is despite overwhelming evidence that the cap is not only damaging the lives of public sector workers, but is seriously undermining the services that we all use.

I’m clear: if you use it; if you value it; if you say you cherish it – then pay for it. So I’ve put in for a debate in Parliament next week on finally ending this obscene pay cap. Stay tuned for a full blog on the issue!
