For the second day of this year’s Summer School the students came down to Westminster.
We had a busy but rewarding day which started with a tour of Parliament, this included seeing Westminster Hall and going inside the House of Commons where the students had the opportunity to watch me answer an Urgent Question at the despatch box ๐ข๐ง๐ฌ๐ข๐๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐ก๐๐ฆ๐๐๐ซ. The students then had the opportunity to ๐ฏ๐ข๐ฌ๐ข๐ญ ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐จ๐ฐ๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ญ๐ซ๐๐๐ญ, which is a brilliant and unique opportunity.
We then had โPathways in Politicsโ session which involved a series of talks held by guest speakers from a range of jobs within politics. Thank you to the representatives from the ๐๐จ-๐จ๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ ๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐ญ๐ฒ; the ๐๐ข๐ง๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฒ ๐จ๐ ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ข๐ง๐ , ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐๐ฌ & ๐๐จ๐๐๐ฅ ๐๐จ๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐ง๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ, and ๐๐จ๐ฐ๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ญ๐ซ๐๐๐ญ, as well as my friend Huddersfield MP Harpreet Uppal.
The session ended with a talk I gave about my route through the community into politics in Oldham, some further insight into the role of an MP and what we have been doing in government over the last year. The day then finished with a Q&A with the students.
I hope you all had an insightful & enjoyable day, and have a safe trip back home!
