Clearing-up more waste on West End St. pitches

Thank you to representatives from Oldham Council who have cleared up waste that had built-up on the sports pitches just off West End Street in Coldhurst, as we continue work to restore the pitches to their former glory ready to be put in the hands of the local community.

We have been working for a long time with local Labour Councillors in Coldhurst to get the facilities on West End Street back to the standards that local people deserve. We have:

The previous Labour government brought the pitches to the area but 14 years of cuts under the Tories put this sports venue under threat, only being saved due to the hard work of local Labour councillors.

This Labour government, with our upcoming English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill will give residents the power to rescue the venues they love – and build a brighter future.

This much-loved community space is vital for the surrounding neighbourhoods. Being bounded by busy roads like Oldham Way, Chadderton Way, Rochdale Road and Middleton Road means local children need these pitches to have a safe communal place to play, get good exercise, see friends and get involved in sports clubs.

Promoting community ownership was one of our four core priorities for the people of Oldham West, Chadderton & Royton at the election last year, and the work on West End Street pitches is just one way we have delivered on that priority to empower local people, preserve heritage, and save local venues.

We will not stop working until the facilities are back to a good standard with local people in control of the future of the venue. We will continue to work with the council to secure funding for further improvements so that the pitches can be fully enjoyed once again by the local community.
