After 40 years of deregulation today Greater Manchester has taken back control of the entire network, securing routes and locking in the £2 bus fares to support working people across the city region. This shows devolution and giving power to the people who know their places best works, and the importance of politics being rootedContinue reading “Greater Manchester has today taken back control of our entire bus network”

Railway Public Ownership becomes Law
This is an historic moment. With yesterday’s enactment of the Passenger Railways Services (Public Ownership) Act 2024, this Labour government is already fulfilling its manifesto commitment from the general election in July to start the process of bringing train services back into public hands, a change which represents the biggest overhaul of our railways inContinue reading “Railway Public Ownership becomes Law”

The Greater Manchester Bee Network expands to Oldham, Chadderton and Royton today. Buses will run more frequency, later into the evening, earlier in the morning, and operate in the public interest. Single ticketing across bus and tram and live bus times will make life much easier, and hopefully attract more people to use public transport.Continue reading “Bee Network Comes to Oldham”
Let’s take back control of our buses
Today I have submitted my response to the Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s public bus consultation on their proposal to create a London style bus franchising system. I support the proposal that they have put forward, though I remain committed to the idea that our public transport system should be wholly publicly owned and publicly ran.Continue reading “Let’s take back control of our buses”
