Acting on the issues you care about
Jim McMahon has fought against cuts to policing and youth services which has left the community feeling as though they are fighting alone.
Cuts have led to huge closures; police stations have gone from Royton, Chadderton, Limeside, and there are currently no operational custody cells in Oldham at all!
Many youth centres have closed, together with both the Magistrates Court and County Court, it’s little wonder criminal gangs see opportunity in exploiting young people, with the resulting crime, anti-social behaviour, and the carrying of knifes we see in our community.
Jim has called for greater use of stop and search in hotspots, investment in positive activities for young people, and visible neighbourhood policing.

Labour’s position
- Invest in visible neighbourhood policing
- Tackle criminal gangs who exploit young people
- End knife crime with more stop and search
- Youth Futures programme to deter young people from being drawn into crime
- More powers to close drug dens blighting communities and acting as magnets for anti-social behaviour
- Action on motorbikes, off road scramblers, and quad bikes with powers to immediately crush and issue higher fines
