Social Media policy

You can follow my work on social media platforms X (Twitter), Bluesky and Facebook.

X (Twitter) and Bluesky

X (Twitter) and Bluesky platforms are used for short updates or comments mostly on national politics, events and articles.

Posts and/or replies will usually be from my office.

X (Twitter) handle is @JimFromOldham

Bluesky handle is @JimMcMahon.co.uk

Advanced filters are used for notifications. This can often mean I do not see ‘tags’ or ‘mentions’ by other users.

Messages inboxes are not routinely monitored and may be blocked by advanced filters, especially for new accounts or ones which I am not following.

Facebook

Facebook is used to update constituents on events, visits, and constituency casework which might be of interest.

Posts and/or replies may be from my office. You can find me on Facebook at Jim McMahon MP.

Due to the volume of comments which are received throughout the day, evening and weekends it is not possible to provide comprehensive responses.

Where a post has had significant comments and interest I’ll usually post a general comment in response.

General principles

We should all respect each other even when we disagree.

Use social media to be social; exchange, support or challenge, that’s all encouraged.

I welcome alternative views, but my social media pages are provided to allow me to update constituents on my work as an MP, it isn’t to be used to promote other agendas or political parties.

Please do not post persistent messages, post or comment on non-related content to the topic, commercial adverts, bulk post, harass or make inflammatory comments to provoke a reply.

Posts and comments which do not meet the standard to keep the page safe, respectful and focused will be removed or ‘hidden’. Serious or repeated breaches could result in you being banned from posting. Abusive comments will always result in users banned from the page. If you have been blocked, I’m sorry that was necessary, but it isn’t done lightly.

Any racist, homophobic or other hate speech will be reported to Facebook and/or any other appropriate authority.

Getting help

Please remember that social media is only one form of communication. My office deals with thousands every year and prioritise all incoming casework. I explain more about how my office deals with casework here.

If you are affected by any issue raised, or would like to raise a new issue please note that we do not accept casework by social media, and we deal with casework by prioritising the urgently, importance and personal impact casework ahead general campaigns or lobbies.

All casework is recorded and tracked to ensure you get a good service and issues are fully resolved. Email is always better but you are welcome to call the office too.
