I’m delighted planning approval has been granted to take forward the refurbishment of West End Street pitches.
The old 2g pitch and changing rooms had become worn and derelict and while young people continue to use it, it became increasing unsafe and a magnet for fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour on its associated car park.
After years of hard work to safeguard the facility we eventually secured the £500,000 funding needed to completely renew the pitch, install new LED lighting alongside a new fence.
In future I hope we are able to better use the changing room which could be a great facility.
I want to give credit to Abdul Jabbar, former councillor Abdul Malik and volunteers for realising this important project. I was determined to see it brought back to use, just like the work done to support investment in Chapel Road and AVRO FC, but it wouldn’t have happened without their support and determination.
