I’ve started to organise my photos – of which there are many – and came across these photos of Chadderton Baths before it was sold.
The public swimming baths opened in 1937 and stayed in use until its closure in 2006 following a structural survey which deemed it unsafe for continued use. It was replaced in 2009 by a new £9million ‘wellbeing centre’ at which point the former sports centre adjacent to the old baths was also closed.
FOR ME, conference is a perfect opportunity to see and hear from Labour colleagues from across local government. Speaking at fringe events was perfect for this, and I spoke on a range of subjects – from giving more power to local communities, to exploring how everyone can benefit from economic growth.
ONE OF the favourite parts of my job is celebrating the success and acknowledgement of the unsung heroes that reside in our communities.
THE LAWS around animal cruelty are grossly outdated and mean offenders are not being properly punished. However the Government refuse to listen to people’s concerns, leaving animals at risk of cruelty.
I wrote to the Government this month on behalf of constituents, raising our concerns about the inadequate sentencing measures for those charged with animal cruelty. I WAS honoured to have attended the North Chadderton School Presentation Awards Evening as Chief Guest. It was incredibly moving to see so many proud parents, friends and families beam with pride as they watched their children receive the awards.
I WAS delighted to attend The Open Oldham Exhibition at The Gallery Oldham yesterday evening. It was moving to see how well attended the event was, with proud locals enjoying the incredible showcase of talent which was on display from our very own Oldham born and bred artists.

LIKE ME YOU will have been troubled and angered by the humanitarian crisis in Myanmar and the plight of the Rohingya Muslims.
The response from the Oldham community has been to come together to raise funds to support those fleeing into Bangladesh, and I pay tribute to those efforts.
