Good news that ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฆ๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ ๐๐ถ๐น๐น ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ผ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ป ๐ผ๐ป ๐ ๐ผ๐ป๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฒ๐๐ต ๐ข๐ฐ๐๐ผ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฟ, bringing some much-needed relief for residents, businesses and road users after months of disruption.
Iโve repeatedly pressed for action to get King Street reopened, raising the impact of the closure with the Council and calling for urgent progress. While the reopening is welcome, work is still needed to address the longer-term issues with the neighbouring buildings, and Iโll continue to press for these to be resolved.

Overnight closures will remain in place until 13 November while essential safety barrier works are completed.
The latest timetable, subject to progress on site, is:
One lane in each direction open 24/7 from 13th November
both lanes in each direction reopened by mid-December
works at the roundabout and underneath the bypass completed by the end of February 2027
The delays to the flyover works have had a real impact, particularly with the combined knock on effects of King Street also being closed, the ongoing works in Royton town centre, and the summer of resurfacing works across the borough we had. I know how frustrating this has been for people trying to get to work, businesses dealing with disruption and bus passengers facing more difficult journeys.
Safety has to come first, but residents deserve clear information, realistic timescales and action to minimise disruption. Iโll continue to push for the remaining works to be completed as quickly as possible and for Oldhamโs roads to get back to normal.
Thank you to everyone who has been patient throughout these closures. Getting our town moving again must remain the priority.
Be assured that the questions relating to the King Street building collapse wonโt go away simply because the road is now reopened. It was lucky no one was killed.
